Trick or Treat

It was a Halloween night and I was around the age of 7, I lived in a small community where everyone knew each other and we all did stuff together often. Every year, the parents and kids would all go out together trick or treating and we always made sure to practice the buddy system since the houses were quite far apart and all the driveways were quite long. Just before we were all about to head out, a woman and her daughter suddenly appeared and had asked to join us since they were just about to go out too. None of us recognized them but, they seemed friendly so we didn’t think much of it. One thing stood out to me though, I kept catching the mother staring and smiling at me. Whenever I saw her, she would wave and look away. Her daughter didn’t seem too happy either, almost like she didn’t want to be there.

Anyway, the night was coming to a close and we were all having a lot of fun. I felt I had collected enough candy, so while the kids and parents went up to different houses, I hung back with the mother so I wouldn’t be by myself. While we waited, the mother asked me, “Do you want to come back with my daughter and I? We have lots more candy at our house. Come on, it would be fun!” I got a weird feeling when she asked, she kept staring and had a weird smile on her face, almost like she was pretending to seem nice and forcing herself to look happier. I said no and was about to go back with the rest of the families when suddenly she grabbed my hand and started to pull me towards their car. She kept saying, “It will be fun! We could be a family!” and I screamed as loud as I could. She gave up and left with her daughter, they sped off in their car and we called the police. I am not sure what happened after that or if that was even her own daughter… but it still scares me to this very day. I wonder what would have happened if I had gone with them…
