The legend of Kuchisake-onna

Author: Anwitha Kandula

Hello my name is Anwitha, and today I will be telling you a Japanese urban legend, it is called Kuchisake-onna or also known as the, “slit mouth woman”. A long time ago their lived the most beautiful woman in all the lands and she was associated with many men. But out of all of them she decided to marry an important samurai, but the rest of the men didn’t give up. At first she ignored all of them, but her husband soon had to go to war and she got lonely. In the end she fell, “head over heals” for one of the men. And she was the most prettiest woman in the village, tired of waiting for him she kept on having relationships with different men, who were so much more handsome, stronger, braver, richer, and rumors started spreading about the most prettiest woman in the village and it soon reached her husband. The samurai was rather curious about her, even though he had a wife. The samurai won the war and went back home with his friends and went drinking, then one of his friends told him, “hey, do you remember that pretty woman I was telling you about, well I heard she lives around hear”,so the friends set of to go meet the woman, but as the closer the samurai got the more familiar everything was, but he was still under the influence of the alcohol. As soon as they got their, they came across a bright cherry red door. His friend said, “ it’s here”, but the samurai was speechless, “what are you? Chicken?”, his friend jokingly said, “this is my house”, said the samurai. He busted the door open and ran into his wife’s room, and he saw his wife with another man.
Immediately he grabbed his sword and the man and sliced his back, and he turned to his wife, asking , “do you really think your pretty?”, And he slit her mouth open. Most people say she turned into an old spirit who can back to the world for revenge. She look like a normal woman and uses a mask to hide har scars, which is very common in Japan, lots of people use them to protect them from disease’s. Kuchisake-onna wanders the streets, looking for victims, she approaches them and asks, “Am I beautiful?” ,if you say, “yes”, she will take her mask off, so you can see her scars, and ask, “am I beautiful now” ,if you say, “no”, or if you scream, she cuts your mouth open to make it look like hers, and the wounds caused by Kuchisake-onna will never be healed. If you answer, “yes”, to both questions, nervously, she will follow you back to your house and kill you. But if you answer, “yes”, to both of the questions, confident or fearless, she will give you a blood stained ruby and leave. But if you say, “I don’t have time”, she will apologize and leave you alone. So next time you see a woman with a mask you now know what to say.

I took a lot of the information from the channel, draw the life Tik Tak and this is only a legend and their are many versions of it.
